CPSS Alumni Polemarch's Greeting to Brothers and Visitors

Frank Griffith, 8th Polemarch Frank Griffith, 8th Polemarch

Welcome and Greetings from the 8th Administration of the College Park/Sandy Spring Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, affectionately known as “The Blueprint Chapter”……as we have the BLUEPRINT to Achieve and Succeed!

I'm both humbled and honored to serve in the capacity as the 8th Polemarch of our illustrious Chapter. The College Park/Sandy Spring Alumni Chapter has accomplished a great deal since its charter was granted in 2005, and I am looking forward to building on our rich history of service to the fraternity and to our Prince George’s County and Montgomery County communities. Our chapter has been a stalwart innovator for new ideas, opportunities and programs. From being a principal creator of the Kappa Takeover, to sharing new experiences in aeronautical history at the Udvar-Hazy Center or financial awareness with our Kappa Leaguers, I envision CPSS to continue to be on the innovating edge in servicing our communities and Brothers.

Take a moment to peruse our website and learn about our community-based programs, as well as our involvement with the leaders of tomorrow via our Kappa League Program. Please also consider supporting our work in these areas by donating to the Kappa Community Development Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization focusing on charitable, educational, and economic development opportunities. Also consider patronizing one or all of our social events; You'll be glad you did!

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that CPSS, the 2020 Large Chapter of the Year for the Eastern Province, is home to over 90 Brothers that primarily reside in the Washington metropolitan area. If you are a member of Kappa Alpha Psi that is currently looking for a chapter to call home, we meet on the third Friday of every month (except in July and August). Location information and other Kappa activities can be found on our home page. We invite you to come and learn more about CPSS and to fellowship with us. We strive to work, in the words of our Grand Polemarch “Brother To Brother, Breaking Barriers, and Building Bridges”.

Finally, I look forward to continue our Chapter's great work by “Building The Bond Within, While Enriching The Future For Others”. Thank you in advance for your support. May God bless you and your families, God Bless the College Park/Sandy Spring Alumni Chapter and God Bless Kappa Alpha Psi.

Best regards,

Frank W. Griffith Jr.

The Chartering of CPSS

On Sept. 19, 2004 at the 13th Annual Howard County Police Pace Walk & Run , Province Polemarch Rufus Clanzy and Province MOIP Coordinator K. Andre’ Gladden represent Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.® During the 1 mile fun walk they had discussion about current chartering efforts in the Eastern Province. Province Polemarch Clanzy reaffirmed that there was an ongoing Sandy Spring/Laurel effort in place.

After the charity walk, Brother Andre’ Gladden called Brother Hank Boyd, Jr. to set up an October meeting to discuss chartering options. Brother Andre’ Gladden  met Brother Hank Boyd, Jr. and Brother Hank Boyd, III for lunch at Arundel Mills County Kitchen to discuss combining their efforts with a new petitioning group from College Park. Brother Gladden represented approximately 30 University of Maryland Chapter, the Theta Theta of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity alumnus. The nucleus of the 30 Brothers had formed a tailgating contingent at Maryland Terps football ball games for over 13 years and had decided to form a College Park chapter.

From this meeting it was agreed that the two groups would form one synergetic group and present a combined petition to the Province Polemarch and the Grand Board of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. A three person chartering committee was formed in which Brother Gladden was the chairmen, Hank Boyd worked on finance and Al Howard worked on membership. The chartering committee decided that Hank Boy, Jr. would be the chartering Polemarch, Joe Harris, Jr. the Vice Polemarch, Al Howard the Keeper of Exchequer and Edward Hayes the Keeper of Records.

The chartering committee submitted a petition as the College Park/Sandy Spring (MD) Alumni chapter with 47 chartering members. This chartering group was one of the largest alumni chartering groups in recent Eastern Province and Fraternity history. The petition was reviewed and approved by the Grand Board of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity on January 25, 2005. The chapter was charter on May 15, 2005.
