WHAT IS KAPPA LEAGUE?
Kappa League, formerly known as the Kappa Instructional Leadership League, is the national youth initiative of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. Kappa League focuses on training young men of color (but not exclusive to) 6th-12th grade for leadership, achievement and service in every field of human endeavor. Strong emphasis is placed upon personal development, academic achievement and college and career preparation.
IS KAPPA LEAGUE A FRATERNITY?
NO. Kappa League is a youth LEADERSHIP organization that is focused solely on the personal development, academic achievement and college and career preparation of its young members.
WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE KAPPA LEAGUE MEETINGS?
The College Park Sandy Spring Kappa League meets on the first and third Saturday of each month beginning in September. The Kappa meets at Montgomery Blair High School in Montgomery County and at the University of Maryland College Park in Prince George's County. WHAT ARE THE AGE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN KAPPA LEAGUE?
The CPSS Kappa League Program is ideally suited and excellent for young males between the ages of 12 and 18, and exemplifies the men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. CPSS is a local alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi that hosts the program.
WHAT ARE THE ACTIVITIES OF KAPPA LEAGUE?
This program focuses on education, health, wellness and personal youth development, college preparation, community service, college field trips, career based field trips, youth leadership activities and mentoring.
IS KAPPA LEAGUE JUST FOR AFRICAN AMERICAN MALES?
Not at all! While there is a strong focus upon African American young men, Kappa Leagues throughout the country have members that reflect the global community of young men.
IS THE GOAL OF KAPPA LEAGUE TO HAVE ITS MEMBERS BECOME MEMBERS OF KAPPA ALPHA PSI?
No: Kappa League and Kappa Alpha Psi are two distinctly separate programs. The goal of Kappa League is to train and produce more achieving young men of color that will become leaders of impact and influence in today’s society.
